Volunteers Needed for Adopt-a-Beach in Laguna Beach Dec. 9

WHAT:

As part of continuing efforts by the Clean Water Now! Coalition and California Coastal Commission to beautify and clean up the coastline of Laguna Beach, volunteers are needed for a community clean-up event focused on Main Beach, Oak Street Beach and Treasure Island Beach at Montage Resort and Spa. “Just three hours out of your Saturday morning will contribute toward the beautification of the city,” said David Ross, Senior District Manager of Waste Management of Orange County, which is donating trash and recycling bins and service for the event.

WHEN:

NEXT SATURDAY, Dec. 9, 2006
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

WHERE:

Laguna Beach - cleanup locations are: Main Beach, Oak Street Beach and Treasure Island Beach at Montage Resort and Spa
Free all-day parking at city lots is available for clean-up participants

WHO:

Volunteers of all ages and abilities can join sponsors the Clean Water Now! Coalition, the California Coastal Commission, Waste Management of Orange County, and other local businesses and community groups in cleaning up Laguna Beach. No special equipment is needed - anything the volunteers need in order to participate will be provided.

WHY:

“Unfortunately some people utilize the local beaches as dumping grounds for their trash and litter, rather than working to preserve their beauty,” said Ross. “We all need to work together - as residents, businesses and community leaders - to focus special attention on areas that need our help the most. Taking care of our environment is an important job. We are asking for your help in addressing this challenge. ”
